Mosandrite, named for the Swedish chemist and mineralogist Carl Gustav Mosander (1797-1858) is a mineral composed of a silicate of sodium, calcium, titanium,

Hieroglyphic Stone
These Mosandrite stones are yellow-brown to dark brown color with many markings. The lines that look like hieroglyphics in this stone are actually ancient petrified
plant life. The light colored markings are made of jasper. When the ancient plants preserved in this stone died and fell to the ground, they were covered by red clay
rich in silica. Jasper, a silica rich mineral, replaced the carbon in the plants and turned then to stone. The hardened red clay that surrounds the petrified plant life is
soft and can be scratched with a knife.

Moldavite

Scientific Moldavite
Moldavite is a member of the tektite family, which is a natural glass created some 15 million years ago when the earth was struck by a very large meteorite.  To
note, the temperature required to melt Moldavite tektite minerals into its glassy form is 200 degrees greater than that needed to fuse Pyrex glass. 'Tis a wee bit
warm, I'd say.
Moldavite's "etched" texture is produced from naturally occurring acids and weathering conditions.
Moldavites are translucent glowing green. Their color can vary from olive green to a bright, almost blue-green, the green coloring attributed by the presence of
aluminum oxide.

As the story goes:  Moldavite Tektites are the result of a Meteorite impact in which created the Reiss crater in Germany. This impact melted together meteorite and
Earth then splashed a molten ball of what is now known as Moldavite into neighboring Czech Republic. (Moldavite only comes from the Czech Republic and
Moravia). Tektites only come from meteorite impact sites.
Moldavite is known as "Vltavin" in the Czech republic. The name comes from the Vltava river, a large river running through the Csezke Budjovice region, in the
heart of the Moldavite fields. This river is also known as the Moldau river, thus giving us the name 'Moldavite.'

Some interesting facts about this specimen are:
Moldavite has been a fascinating stone to many through the ages,  because it is something that came from space - a place of great mystery - which allows us to feel
connected to that other world.
It is the only known gemstone of extra-terrestrial origin.
It has been called the rarest mineral in the world, rarer than diamonds.

Moldavite Sources:
Only one place, the Moldau River Valley in what is called the Ries Crater, in Bohemia, Czechoslovakia (or what is now the Czech Republic).

Moldavite In Lore :
Moldavite's history goes back to the Holy Grail. Then, it was considered to be a holy relic with the belief that it came from "emeralds that fell from the heavens."
In the legends, exposure to this Stone was said to set the beholder upon the spiritual road to self discovery and enlightenment.
Referenced as early as 1787, it is believed that the early peoples of central Europe used Moldavite as a talisman for good luck, was worn as an adornment, and was
used in bartering or trading.
There is also the belief that Moldavite was used prehistorically as a tool.
The stone was given as gifts from royalty to royalty, with this still holding true today.
In ancient times, Moldavite crystals were given as wedding gifts to promote good luck and prosperity for the newly married.
