:Scientific Jet:
Jet, also known as Black Amber, is a black, compact variety of lignite - lignite is referred to as "brown coal" because it shows a brown streak upon its fracture. It is
usually described as a form of fossilized wood. Although Jet is usually characterized as dense and homogeneous, (of the same or similar nature or kind) much of it
exhibits a woody structure, which manifests its origin from conifers.
Jet is developed within carbon-rich beds in predominantly shale strata. During the process of coal formation, wood fragments frequently become impregnated with
dissolved products of decomposition, and then a material is formed that is dense and pitch-like. This process has sometimes been called 'gagatization,' because
gagate, (the term Jet from the Latin gagates) originates in a similar way by saturation of wood with organic substances, primarily hydrocarbons.
This mineral will feel warm when held for a short period of time, or by rubbing it briskly. And it becomes electrically charged when rubbed with cloth, thus, picking
up such things as small bits of paper. Jet is flammable, and gives off an odor like that of burning coal.
Jet pieces shaped by flint tools have been found with other paleolithic materials within caves in Canton Schaffhausen, Switzerland and in Belgium. Artifacts made
from Whitby Jet have been recorded as dating to at least the 2nd Century B.C.

Turritella Agate
:Scientific Turritella Agate:
The Turritella Agate is not an Agate at all. It is in relation to Petrified Wood. Nor, is the Turritella Agate a fossil of Turritella Gastropods. It is a fossil of Elimia
Tenera Gastropods which are fresh water snails (gastropods) that share a similar shape to ocean born Turritellas. The agatized fossil rough was misnamed many
years ago, but the name of Turritella is still used.
Turritella Agate is from Wyoming, USA. The colors of the fossilized snails are amber, golds or bluish set in a gray black to dark brown matrix. The size of the
fossil spiral snails can range up to 1 1/2" long.
This Fossil's story begins in early Tertiery times (approximately 60 million years ago) when a series of geological events caused the uplifting of mountains that
would come to be known as the Rockies. As this land was raised upwards it formed three "Eocene Age" (38-58 million years old) lakes in the area of Wyoming,
Montana, Colorado and Utah.
Over the millennia, violent eruptions of nearby volcanoes helped create a pristine environment for fossils to form what with the lake mud and everything in it
becoming petrified, or, frozen in stone.
:Turritella Agate Sources:
Only in Wyoming, Utah, Colorado and Montana. But, an archaeological dig in the Czech Republic revealed beads containing fossils of Gastropods that are almost
30,000 years old.
