Halite
Chemistry: NaCl, Sodium Chloride
Astrology Sign: Libra
Element: Air
Numerology: 9 Generous, Compassionate

:Scientific Halite:
Halite,  from 'hals,' the Greek word for 'salt,'  crystallizes in perfect cubes which is the typical habit of this mineral. But it does form another interesting habit that is
sought after by collectors. That habit being called a 'hopper crystal.'  The edges of a hopper crystal extend outward from the center of the crystal leaving hollow
stair-step faces between these edges. Hopper crystals form due to the disparity of growth rates between the crystal edges and the crystal faces.

Halite is found in solid masses, and as a dissolved solution in oceans and inland lakes. Inland lakes that are rich in salt exist in arid regions, and are commonly below
sea level with no outlet. In many,  there is more water being evaporated than the amount coming in. As the water evaporates, chunks of salt are leftover on the
shores of the lake.  Many of these inland lakes have already dried up, leaving over enormous salt deposits which are commercially mined.
Halite also exists in non-arid regions, but this is only possible in underground deposits. These deposits are mined by drilling wells into the salt layer, and bringing in
hot water which quickly dissolves the salt. The water then becomes saturated with dissolved salt (this solution is known as "brine") and is then pumped out. The
brine evaporates and the remainder is mostly salt, which is refined and then put to use.
Hopper shaped cubes may result when the brine is evaporated.
Halite usually forms in colors of clear or white but it can also be found blue, purple, pink, red, brown yellow and gray..

Sea, Israel.

:Halite in Lore:
In esoteric love, the cube is the Earth Goddess symbol. And so is salt, with its preservative qualities, and it's tasting like blood. This 'salt of the earth' originally
represented the Goddess. The sacred name of Queen Mother Earth, according to Cabalistic tradition, is Malkuth, from Hebrew MHL, "salt," which may explain the
biblical myth of Lot's wife - the Goddess image as a pillar of salt.
The practice of 'blessing' altars, and other ecclesiastical items, with salt is rooted in ancient paganism. Egyptians blessed altars with salt as did Rome's Vestal Virgins
sprinkle salt and flour on sacrificial animals. Salt mixed with red clay as in imitation of sacred blood for purifying animals, was used in ancient Hawaii.
Halite crystals represented immortality in Egypt because of it being known as a preservative substance.

:Why Do People Throw Salt Over Their Shoulder?:
The reason people throw spilt salt over their shoulder dates back to ancient times. Salt was once an extremely valuable commodity. Spilling salt was therefore very
bad fortune.
Reasoning had it that by spilling salt, it would attract the Devil's attention, as he is always on the lookout for people suffering bad fortune, as then they are more
easily led astray. So being the Devil, he would approach the poor salt spiller and look over their left shoulder. This is because the left hand side is considered bad
luck, or the 'Devil's side'. (The word "sinister" is from the Latin word for 'left'). So of course, he'd be peering over the poor salt spiller's left shoulder, and to get rid
of him, they had to throw a pinch of the salt over their left shoulder, where it would end up in his eyes and discourage his attention.

This is a very old superstition that is still present in many European cultures. Silly perhaps, but for a culture that was dominated by belief in the Devil and evil spirits,
it made perfect sense to them.

Numerology: 5: Adventure

:Scientific Carnelian:
Carnelian was used widely during Roman times to make signet or seal rings for imprinting a seal with wax on correspondence or other important documents. The
hot sealing wax does not stick to Carnelian.
The word carnelian is derived from the Latin word caro, carnis meaning flesh, in reference to the flesh color sometimes exhibited.
The Carnelian is a form of Chalcedony, Chalcedony is a crytocrystalline form of silica , composed of very fine intergrowths of the minerals quartz and morganite.
Carnelian appears in colors of light yellow-red, brownish-red or reddish-orange brought about by iron oxides in the Chalcedony . It is in the same group as Banded
Agates, Bloodstone, Chrysoprase, Moss Agates and Sard.
As an added note, the Carnelian is very sensitive to oils and acids. So if wearing a necklace be sure the stone is set into a finding that will keep the mineral off skin.

Carnelian has been associated with flesh, blood, carnal passions, earthiness and the materialist world.
The ancient Egyptians called the Carnelian the Blood of Great Goddess Isis,' and wore a Carnelian heart amulet, called an Ab, for protection.
Roman writings described the darker stones were male, and the lighter colored stones are female.
In oriental cultures, the Carnelian was believed to protect the wearer from evil sorcery.
Muslims believed that wearing a Carnelian will bring about all wishes and desires.
People living along the Central Asian trade routes used various forms of chalcedony, including Carnelian, to carve intaglios  ring bezels (the upper faceted portion of
a gem projecting from the ring setting), and beads that show strong Graeco-Roman influence. Fine examples of first century objects made from chalcedony,
possibly Kushan , were found in recent years at Tillya-tepe in north-western Afghanistan. Hot wax would not stick to it so it was often used to make seal

Here is a fun and simple technique for daily personal therapy using Stones.

Tools Needed:
Stones
Small pieces of paper

:Stone Preparation:
First, you will have to purchase (if you don't already have) the stones that are listed and described at the end of this article.
Perhaps you will desire to buy all, or a choice few for your collection. Please note that smaller specimens will be more suitable.
When the stones are home with you, cleanse them in any manner you so choose: smudging, soaking in cold water, placing in sea salt are just a few cleansing
techniques.
Next, program them to the description of the listed stones. How to do this is quite easy. Hold the stone in your left (psychic) hand and chant to yourself the name of
the particular stone (so you will become familiar with the name) and also chant what particular meaning the stone is to abide by.
Here is an example of what how you might chant: "You are the Aventurine and you are the 'focus on finances' stone".

:Paper Preparation:
For the amount of stones you will be using, cut the same amount of pieces of paper tags. 2x3 inches should be sufficient in size. Please feel free to use any type of
paper: plain white or colored, linen, parchment, heavy bond, etc. Make sure you cannot see through the paper, as there will be writing on one side. For those of you
who are creative, cut the tags into any shape or, leave them in a square shape. Feel free to also to decorate them in any manner.
After you have cut the tags, sign your name to ONLY ONE of them.

:Stone Therapy:
Now, lay out all the pieces of paper in random order, in patterns, or systematically. Be sure the tag bearing your name is facing downwards.
Next, place a stone on top of each of the paper tags in random order.
Find the tag with your name written, and read the stone's decryption that was set upon the tag.
Incorporate that stone's meaning into your day's activities. Let the stone be your own personal therapist.

Bornite

:Scientific Bornite:
Bornite, named for Austrian mineralogist Ignaz von Born, is also known as Peacock Ore and Peacock Rock. It crystallizes in formations of masses, cubic and
rhombododecahedral crystals. It forms in red-brown color, but has iridescent tarnish of blue, purple, rose, turquoise and yellow.  The Bornite is an important
copper ore mineral which occurs widely in porphyry copper deposits along with the more common chalcopyrite.

The mineral gets its trade name of  "peacock ore" due to the  iridescent tarnish that forms on Bornite upon exposure to air. It is said that the tarnish is made of
assorted copper oxides or hydroxides that form a mere atoms thin layer over the Bornite. The thickness of the layers is close to the wavelength of light. When light
waves bounce between the Bornite surface and the top of the tarnish layer they will leave with the wavelengths of various colors - similar to the rainbow effect that
occurs with oil on water. In the case of Bornite, the tarnish will have a purplish, violet or blue color. And because Bornite is often intergrown with chalcopyrite
which tarnishes to more greens and yellows, the peacock ore may have many colors ranging from purple to blue to green to yellow.
