Virginia City, Nevada is a historic mining town of the mid-1800s, with numerous original buildings still surviving. One that stands proud on “D” street is the Mackay Mansion, which was the office for the Gould & Curry Mining Company from 1860 to 1903. John Mackay, a superintendent of the company, and one of the four-man team of “Bonanza Kings,” purchased the building, living there as his home in the 1870s.
Today, the mansion is open for tours, where guests can observe the opulence and wealth in furnishings and fittings from the ore garnered from silver and gold prospected in several of the region’s mines.

The Mackay Mansion is a true Nevada icon, and a treasure of the Virginia City community.
