Orbs. This is a great controversy with many believers AND skeptics.  There are (too) many theories
surrounding this phenomena.  I have to admit, I believe in orbs.  I do not believe, as many do, that we
are only taking pictures of bugs or dust. I have, on purpose, experimented and taken pictures of dust
and bugs, and these photos don't come any near looking like pictures having orbs.

With the phenomena of orbs, their colors comes in to play. Again, many theories have arisen out of the
'dust.' Just what do orb colors mean? And why do they mean what they do?

To toot my own horn, the combination of having psychic gifts and being a ghost hunter, gives me a nice
edge to see orbs not only from pictures taken on my camera, but also with the naked eye. I can usually
discover just "who's" energy orb is floating by, who is "posing" with you in your family photo, and who
showed up for that backyard BBQ. Colored orbs, I feel, are a treasure to "see" and photograph. Not
that white/grey orbs don't have their own beauty, but colored orbs bring forth amazement that an energy
source can be so beautiful.

To be honest, I'm not sure why orbs are colored.  As well, with all the information I have researched for
my book, "A Ghost Hunter's Guide," and this article, it seems to me that we are all wandering around in
the dark about what is fact and what is fiction when it comes to the colors of orbs....let alone
discovering just what an orb actually is.

I believe in orbs. But I know this is a great controversy with many believers and skeptics alike.

And so, my article for this month:
The Great Orb Color Controversy - You be the judge.

Sandie, of Thin Veil Investigators
"The Orb Phenomenon is taking the paranormal world by storm.  The name orb is derived from the fact that the object is
round and it appears to be a form of energy that is produced by a manifestation of a spirit in its lowest possible form.  The
orb can appear low to the ground or high in the sky. I have seen them 2 foot off the ground and 6ft above a house. The
object can appear and disappear in one place or actually move, it can also glow.  Audio recording devices can sometimes
pick up EVP – Electronic Voice Phenomenon at the same time as orbs going by this can be odd sounds or actual words.
Orbs appear to be sneaky in that they will move around trying to evade capture on film.

Since the invention of the Digital Camera more and more Orbs are being photographed around the world and filmed
appearing and disappearing using Infrared camcorders. Let me first say that 95% of all "orbs" you will see on a stills
digital camera will be dust related.  That’s not to say that a 35mm SLR with IS0200 film could not get one (in fact we
have on a £5 disposable camera), it just seems to be easier to get them on digital due to the low costs involved (no
developing) and the amount of photos taken especially at night with a flash (skeptics point to this as illuminated dust
particles) but you can photograph them in daylight without a flash and get them but they are rarer.  The only explanation
I can think of for this is that Digital equipment is electronic and the energy provided by the camera could be the key to
getting an orb in a photo. It doesn't matter which make or brand of camera you use. It has been subjected by some
skeptics that the proximity of the lens to flash causes the problem. Most compact cameras are like this, but I have both an
SLR type with a pop up flash and a compact which a flash close to the lens made by different manufactures. I get the
results with both. In fact the SLR is the better one with a higher mega pixel count (another thing skeptics say that
electronic noise from low spec mega pixel cameras cause them) I have 8.4MP SLR photos that have been taken of them.
As I said earlier you can probably explain 95% of white/blue orbs as dust like particles or moisture, but 5% look different
please read on to find out how.

You also seem to find orbs in places where people have died for example graveyards, why I don't know?.  That’s not to say
you will always photograph one, you might take 100 photos and not find a single orb, it depends if you get lucky!"

"Orbs, energy, and ghosts come in all kinds of colors, what does it mean, the different colors? It seems that paranormal
experts and weird beard hobbyists can not agree on what different colored sightings signify.
Below are half hazard explanations, that tries to explain what it's all about.

The colors of white or silver is supposed to signify that the orb, energy, or ghost is trapped in this world or does not want to
leave this dimension, and in some cases is protecting an area.

However, white and silver orbs or ghosts, have been the ones through the ages that have caused mayhem, made people
uncomfortable and on occasions have attacked. It's of note that in UFO phenomena as in missing time, (contact-attack) in
some cases there have been reports of white and silver colors. Unfortunately through the annals of history, these colors
sometimes tend to bring disaster or trauma to people when they see them.

Transparent or dirty glass like orbs or ghosts have been reported to be the ones that are trying to communicate. As in
something happened here, or this is how you can help in freeing the being from this area.

Dark orbs or ghosts (Black & Brown) are the ones that you want to stay away from as in a magnet of disaster aimed at you.
Black energy, is filled with evil intentions and harm or death. Brown according to some New Agers, means that the energy is
Earthy. However, others say that Brown is dangerous, this color is most powerful during rain storms, and is deadly to
computers.

I am not satisfied with Blue explanations, of orbs or ghosts. Supposedly the color blue designates that the energy is calm, and
a spectator. However, I agree with the minority of shadow chasers, who claim that blue ghosts or orbs for the most part tend
to be guides, helpers, or visitors from a different realm

Red and orange energy is said to be that of anger or healing. Perhaps, but I again tend to go with the minority of shadow
chasers who claim that red is a color associated with a energy that seems to be on guard duty. Be it watching over a last
outpost or over a loved one that has died.

Green energy? According to some it means an energy that is full of fertility. Others say it's the energy of a human that is still
in this world as a spirit, this energy is full of disgusting rape-grope-violent sexual energy.

Yellow?  Confused on what the colors mean, so am I. "

" Color of Orbs: Here is a subject that might be a fuse lighter for a lot of Ghost Hunters and Investigators. Many believe
that the color of orbs are nothing more then light refraction's in the camera, the angle of the photo, and/or natural lighting
in the area of the photo. I cannot take sides with this, for "Yes" all of the above mentioned ways will indeed cause the orb to
change colors when the flash goes off, but there is a start to a build up of evidence that supports that color may not just be
those, but indeed a representation of the orbs energy. Now, don't get me wrong here, I'm not referring to the mood the orbs
are in, but the actual energy level.

Colors have been a symbol of things since the time that Christ walked the earth, so who is to say, that the color of orbs is
not a indication of the orbs energies. Do colors not affect the way our mood is in? Well yes they do, for if you are in a dark
and gloomy place for some time, you mood will indeed change. On the other hand, if you are placed in a well light and
bright colored room for any an amount of time, then again, your mood will change to the better. So to bluntly say that the
color of orbs are nothing more then reflections, then we are closing the door to having an open mind.

I am an experienced photographer, I was in law enforcement for 20 years and am trained in Investigative photography and
have taken my share at photographing crime scenes. I have seen orbs that have a certain color and the presence felt was in
retrospective to the color of the orb. In these same photographs, I could find no means of reflective colonization and the
fact that only one orb out of several was of this color. So do the color of the orbs mean something other then reflections?
"Yes", I do believe so and I believe that we cannot afford to simply toss this off to the side by calling it color reflections,
without further study and collection of data."

"There are several different theories that may explain the color differences in orbs…

Theory #1 – Color difference in orbs is caused by "chromatic distortion" which is a fancy way of saying that our eyes
perceive different wavelengths and shapes as varying colors.  If a particle happens to be of a certain makeup or shape,
it will tend to absorb certain wavelengths of light and reflect others, thus giving the perception of a certain color.
Paravision has an interesting page on the anatomy of an orb.

Theory # 2 – Orb color difference is caused by the energy of the spirit who is represented by the orb.  For example, some
ghost hunters believe that red and orange orbs represent a spirit who is angry or in need of healing.  Other shadow
chasers claim that red is a color associated with an energy that seems to be on guard duty (often watching over a last
outpost, or a loved one who has died).

Dee asked whether a red orb should be considered negative or harmful.  There is no evidence to suggest that red orbs
are harmful or more negative than white orbs.  The color difference may simply be a reflection of the spirit's energy at
the time of his death—or the color may be caused by the shape/frequency of the orb (wavelength theory #1)."

"The Colors Of Orbs

Now onto something what baffles me, Different colour orbs! Red, blue, translucent, why are they these colours?  Well for
one thing I am sure they cant be dust, or a reflection of the moon, for the reasons I explained earlier. My flash is white and
not red, so it cant be a self light off my camera and all orbs would be same colour if this was so.

I really don’t know why they are red, or blue, but what springs to mind is a number of things i.e. It could be the older the
spirit the more colour it gets. The more stronger the spirit is. The colder or hotter the spirit is. How angry the spirit is."

"Orb Colors and Their Meanings

These suggested meanings are a compiled consensus of several different color interpretations. Although they are generally accurate,
additional research is needed to verify their meanings, and it must be noted that each is open to individual interpretation.
As I stated at the beginning of the article, as a psychic, I often know "who" a spirit orb is, even
in a photo. The following color chart is the one I use most commonly, when there is sometimes
a question about what a particular spirit may be feeling.  Also, to a certain point the color of
an orb must be interpreted, not bound strictly to any one particular definition.
Orbs come in all kinds of colors. What do these colors mean?
It seems that those working with the paranormal can not
agree on what different colored sightings signify.

I have my own opinions and beliefs in what the colors mean
or signify, based on my psychic impressions of that
particular orb, and where that orb was captured on my film.

It is all up for personal interpretation, and below is my list
of what I believe the colors to represent.

White or Silver:
As some have stated, a white or silver orb represents those who have
remained to tend to unfinished business, wanting to watch over family,
protecting their earthly plane material assets, hanging out until all the family
is reunited on the other side. These colors due tend to be the major amount
of orbs presented in photos.
And, sure, why not...I will agree with this. After all, 90 out of 100 photos I
take are full of white or silver orbs. I do find it comforting that so many
who have crossed over let us know they are here with us, as shown in our
pictures.
I totally believe, however, that the "lacy" effects inside orbs are "signatures"
of that particular person. For example: I captured my father's spirit (as an
orb) in one photo I took. One reason for believing this signature was in fact
my dad, was because upon close examination of that white orb, I was
astonished to see that his initials were very plainly visible within the lacy
work of the orb! What a treasured picture that is to me!
COLORS OF ORBS, by Sandie
Transparent, Grey, Blurry:
I believe these color of orbs represent that a/the spirit(s) are trying to communicate. I believe they are
trying to talk to us, to say hello, to tell us what happened at that particular spot/place, or perhaps are
trying to warn us that it is a dangerous/traumatic area. I believe that the area upon seeing these grey-ish
color of orbs is a high 'activity' spot. Perhaps this is the place where at spirit likes to hang out, needs to
stay at, etc.  I have discovered that when I am taking pix of these color of orbs, I tend to capture much
EVP.
I have captured many of these grey-ish orbs looking like they are on the move - blurry. I am tending to
believe they are shielding us from the potential high activity area...keeping us away from psychic burns,
hot spots, especially for those who are keen in their psychic, sensitive and/or empathy abilities  so as not
to be overwhelmed with emotions and/or visions of particular trauma.

Brown & Black:
I have heard that when you see a dark orb it means danger, evil, harm.  Well, I'm not too sure of that at all.
I believe that dark orbs are those that are coming into their other side realization of where they are at.
Kind of like, "In the dark" when it comes to knowing or understanding something. Perhaps the dark orbs
represent newness in a new world. Perhaps the next step for these energy orbs is turning blue.
I haven't captured many dark orbs, but the ones that I have don't 'feel' the least bit evil or dangerous.
Confused maybe but certainly not harmful. I could be wrong, but then again this is just my opinion and
feelings I get when I do see dark orbs.

Blue:
The color blue means: calming.
I feel that blue orbs represents acceptance: The spirit of the energy orb is accepting about where she/he,
is accepting of their new role, in a new world or dimension to become a universal part of a new existence.
I've captured blue orbs surrounding traumatic situations, so I'm going to assume that blue orbs bring calm to
those experiencing drama or trauma.

Red:
Red means being passionate about something, guarding, believing in a cause.
I believe Red orbs mean guard(ian), be it watching over our families, our property or even watching over
a loved one that is about to cross over.

Orange:
My belief on orange orbs is a bit controversial to most. But I feel that orange orbs means, almost as the Red
orbs do, about guarding a piece of property. Or, at least, staying at a piece of property. I have captured
many orange photos over gravesites, sitting on tombstones, or surrounding a place were one person or
many are known to have crossed over. I feel the energies need to stay at that place to guard it for some
reason.

Magenta and Pink:
I believe that magenta and pink colored orbs are guides, helpers, or visitors from a different realms. My
reasoning for this is I've captured many pink and magenta colored orbs in sacred places such as inside
churches, hospitals, grave sites, ceremonial arenas, etc.

Green:
According to some green orbs means an energy that is full of fertility. OK. Perhaps on some respects this is
so.
To me, however, green means healing. The green orbs that I have seen are around plants and
flora....perhaps needing earth's energies/elements to heal.
And growth. Growing. This might go along with those who feel fertility is what the green orb represents.
But growth can be in learning, experiencing, doing also.

Yellow:
I feel the energies of a yellow orb is that of happiness or learning of their spiritual world.  I capture a lot
of yellow orbs in schools, and around gravesites of children.  At parties, happy gatherings, and events, I
capture many yellow orbs.   Yellow means: learning, new things, happiness. Most yellow orbs that I have
seen 'feel'  happy with bouncing energy.
